Home Visit and Mobile Physiotherapy in Adelaide

Some people cannot get to a clinic, and for them the clinic is not the right answer. We visit patients at home across western Adelaide — after surgery, during a period of reduced mobility, where transport is the obstacle, or where treating someone in the environment they actually live in is simply more useful than treating them in a treatment room.

A home visit is not a lesser version of a clinic appointment. In some cases it is a better one: we can see the actual stairs you are struggling with, the height of your actual bed and chair, the step at your back door, and the corridor you are learning to walk again.

Who home visits suit

• People recovering from surgery — hip and knee replacements, spinal surgery, fractures — in the weeks before driving is possible
• Older adults where balance, falls risk or frailty makes a car trip its own hazard
• NDIS participants whose plans fund physiotherapy in the community
• DVA clients under a treatment referral
• People whose condition is worst first thing in the morning, when getting out of the house is hardest
• Carers who cannot leave the person they care for to attend an appointment

What we bring, and what we look at

We bring hands-on treatment, exercise prescription and the equipment a home program needs. What we cannot bring is the gym and the hydrotherapy pool, so where a program needs those we will say so and plan the transition to clinic-based sessions as you become able to travel.

What a home visit adds is context. Furniture height, floor surfaces, where the rails are and where they should be, how you actually get in and out of the shower, whether the walking frame fits through the doorway it needs to fit through. Most of that is invisible from a treatment room.

Where we travel

We work within roughly 8 km of the Seaton clinic — Findon, Fulham Gardens, Grange, Henley Beach, West Lakes, Woodville, Royal Park, Semaphore Park, Albert Park, Kidman Park, and the outer ring through Port Adelaide, Flinders Park, Lockleys and Tennyson. If you are just outside that, call and ask rather than assuming the answer is no.

Funding and cost

Home visits are funded differently depending on your situation, and the honest answer is that it depends on yours. NDIS plans with physiotherapy in them generally cover community delivery. DVA covers home visits under a treatment referral. Under a GP Chronic Condition Management Plan the Medicare item applies to the service rather than the venue, so ask us when you book.
