What we see from Grange, and how it works

Grange is one road and five minutes from the clinic, and it is one of the most active suburbs we see. The coastal path gets walkers and runners every day of the year, the jetty and the beach bring swimmers and surfers, and the Grange Golf Club brings golfers, with the back, hip and shoulder problems that a swing repeated a few hundred times a week produces.

The running injuries from the path have their own pattern: shin pain and Achilles pain from the hard, flat surface, and plantar heel pain in people who have switched from path to sand and back. Golfers bring the lower back first, then the lead hip and the trail shoulder. Between the two, Grange keeps us busy with feet, knees, hips and backs in people who want to stay active rather than be told to rest.

Grange Road runs straight to us; turn south into Trimmer Parade and you are there. The Grange railway line stops at Seaton Park, a short walk from the clinic, if you would rather not drive. Parking at the clinic is free and off-street.

Questions from Grange

Do you treat golf injuries from the Grange Golf Club?

Yes. Lower back pain is the commonest golf complaint we see, followed by the lead hip and the trail shoulder. Treatment settles the pain, and a strength and mobility program aimed at the swing keeps it away. Bring a description of where in the swing it hurts.

I get heel pain after running on the Grange path. What is it?

Most often plantar heel pain (plantar fasciitis) or Achilles tendinopathy, both loading problems of the foot and calf. Morning stiffness that eases with movement is the giveaway. Both respond to a specific loading program; the stubborn ones can be treated with shockwave therapy at Seaton.

How do I get to UpPlus from Grange without a car?

Take the Grange line one stop inland to Seaton Park; the clinic is a short walk along Trimmer Parade. By car it is Grange Road east, then south into Trimmer Parade, about five minutes.

Do you see swimmers with shoulder pain?

Yes. Swimmer's shoulder is usually rotator cuff irritation from stroke volume and technique, and it responds to a strengthening program and sometimes a small change to the stroke. We see it from the Grange and Henley beaches as well as the pools.
